There are various ways to level up in New World, where the level cap is 60. The levels can be achieved by completing quests, faction missions, expeditions, town board missions, corrupted portals, and so forth. The primary purpose of this guide is to show you the most efficient way of leveling up your character to level 60. So, let’s begin.
Level 1 to 5
When you first spawn into the Aeternum, you will have to go through a quick tutorial. If you’re already familiar with the gameplay, then you can skip it once you have picked the box from Captain Thorpe. To be more precise, press the ESC button and choose the Skip to New World option.
If you want to get a few free levels with your sword, you can choose to stay and complete the tutorial. You can head to the shielded enemy before the path that leads through the mountains. After killing a shielded enemy, you will be granted sword skill points, and once that’s over, you can choose to stay or skip to the New World.
The first location you land on is the beach of Aeternum, and there are four possible starting locations – Everfall, Monarch’s Bluff, First Light, and Windsward. It’s worth noting that each of these locations is the same until you make your way into the respective settlements. You can’t choose your starting zone because it’s random for every player.
First off, make your way to the beach and run towards the main story quest providers, who are located at the Watchtower. You can identify him through the marked icon on your map, which can be accessed through the ‘M’ key for this New World Leveling Guide. It’s recommended that you stick to the main story for efficient leveling, as you wouldn’t want to stop in between your journey to gather excess materials, and items, or kill mobs with fewer expected drops.
However, you do need to stop and pick up Flint and Wood to make tools at the campfire. You need 4 flints and 4 blocks of wood to craft the items, but carrying a few extras won’t hurt anyone. Doing so will allow you to gather the necessary items required once you go down the questing road. It also saves time from accepting quests and leaving town just to gather the required materials.
Another vital thing that you need to pick up for the quests is the herbs located on the beach. These can be used to create weak health potions, and are quite useful as you progress through the early levels. If you come across the water’s edge, you can also collect Bulrush Cob which is also a good herb to make weak health potions.
As you begin the main storyline on the beach, you will get a good idea of the gameplay. The first five levels are easy and straightforward, so the quest will directly shoot you up to level five. Once that’s achieved, your journey will then lead you to the nearest settlement.
Levels 5 to 9
On your way to the settlement, use the tools that you had crafted at the campfire to find and collect 40 green blocks of wood, 16 raw hides, and 40 stones. Along the way, you will also come across a side quest, and if you think you can quickly complete it, then it’s worth the try, but don’t let it interrupt the flow. If you feel that there are many people around, then simply skip it and head towards the settlement.
Once you reach, you will notice a green market on your map, which is a quest turn-in marked from the last quest you had completed on the beach. So, head here and turn in your quest, which will then open the rest of the town’s quests. These quests are mostly tutorial quests and are quite easy to complete as it doesn’t require much explanation. They include visiting a trading post, inn, storage container, etc.
Completing these quests is important because you gain access to your camp, as well as the ability to choose your faction. You can join a company and flag for PVP, and flagging for PVP is optional, but at the same time it is worth noting that you get additional EXP for being flagged and killing other players. It’s also an efficient way to level up your weapons.
Upon completing the quests that have been unlocked in the settlement will get you up to level 9, and trust me, they don’t take time as they are fairly easy. Once they are completed, you can now choose your faction. Also, make sure that you first run faction-related quests to unlock the access to accept faction missions.
Levels 9 to 18
It’s time to head to Windsward and pick up the available side quests, town board missions, and factions’ missions. Run the loop until you reach level 12. While you’re running the loop, make sure that you level up your harvesting skill to 30 as you will need it later to complete a quest that is a part of the main storyline. Also, you need to mine ores along the way to reach level 10 in mining. After that, you can mine silver ores for a later quest.
Upon reaching level 12, make your way to Yonas, who is an old man wandering by the river. You can start the main story quest line there, and as you progress ahead, make sure you’re also doing the side quests, town board missions, and factions’ missions. It’ll help you reach the levels a lot quicker. Also, don’t go too far ahead and stick to the main storyline route.
Once you gain access to the main storyline quest to kill Ezra the Forgemaster; that’s when you need to get the mining level mentioned earlier. You need to acquire consecrated cross pieces for the Azoth Staff, which is a part of the quest. Along with 5 silver ingots for the staff’s crosspiece.
Once you have them, start the Argent and Aether quest where you have to head to the Amrine Temple to forge the Azoth Staff crosspiece. It’s also the location where you will have to kill Ezra the Forgemaster. After killing Ezra, go to the corner forge and craft the item, and then return back to the hermit.
It’s time to travel to the Shattered Obelisk to craft the staff, and as you go up the stairs, enter the first entrance to locate the forge for this New World Leveling Guide. You should be roughly level 18 now, and you can now return the hermit.
Levels 18 to 23
You need to now grind your way from level 18 to 23 through PVP & PVE faction missions, town board missions, and side quests. Level 23 is critical as you gain access to the Amrine Excavation, as well as the ability to run Bones for Barkimedes quests, repeatedly. You can then continue the main storyline with the Destiny Unearthed quest.
Do the grind in Windsward so you can unlock the Towering Tools side quest, which then leads you to the Seeing Clearly quest. It’s a good quest to save time and gain a good amount of EXP on your first Amrine run. When you are in Windsward, open up your world map and plan an appropriate route using the quest markets to easily complete a quest while making your way to the other.
Levels 23 to 30
Now that you have hit level 23, quickly make your way to the Amrine Excavation. If you have enough Tuning Orbs, you can run Amrine several times which is a good way to reach level 30. It’s best that you pre-plan a group to have plenty of orbs as it’ll save a lot of time. You also need to surely visit the Deadman’s Cove located in Monarch’s Bluff (at least once a day). The area is an open-world elite location with tons of lost mobs.
Just before you hit level 30, make sure to visit Everfall and do the side quests to obtain the quests; Led by Starts, Center of the Stars, and Foreman’s Ledger. These quests are given by the NPC named William Heron. Foreman’s Ledger needs to be completed to unlock a follow-up quest called Starstone Barrows, which is necessary for the further levels. It also rewards you with a Tuning Orb for Amrine so that you can continue with your runs.
Make sure that you have the Destiny Unearthed quest from the Hermit before entering Amrine. Also, pick up the Bones for Barkimedes from Barkimedes, who is located outside the dungeon. As mentioned earlier, get the Seeing Clearly quest from Windsward, and at some point, of your journey, get and complete the Foreman’s Ledger too.
You can always get a group together to obtain tuning orbs and turn to the Deadman’s Cove to grind some levels out, which is an ideal spot to obtain weapon mastery. You can also do corrupted portal runs to obtain a decent amount of EXP, alongside loots, corrupted silver, and azoth.
Levels 30 to 40
At level 30, head to Brightwood, and before that, turn in your main story quest ‘Destiny Unearthed’ to the Hermit, which is when he gives you the quest to go to Brightwood. Now continue to push towards the main storyline, while running side quests, town board missions, and faction missions side by side for this New World Leveling Guide. The story will eventually take you to the Weaver’s Fen where you can continue with the same pattern.
When you’re at level 33, you will unlock the quest from Willian Heron and gain access to the Starstone Barrows. You need to now head back to Everfall to accept it and enter the expedition. Before going there, go back to the Amrine expedition and speak with Barkimedes for another repeatable quest called More Bones for Barkimedes.
You can run this expedition from level 33 to 35, if possible. The supply of tuning orbs for Starstone Barrows will be limited to the orbs from Amrine due to a lack of quests. So, you can plan a group and run dungeons to obtain them.
For further levels, push towards the main storyline till it takes you to Mourningdale. Along the way, you can do town board missions every 30 minutes, as well as level 35 corrupted portal runs. You can also grind the Brightwood Isle, which is a level 34 elite area.
Levels 40 to 48
After hitting level 40, head to the Restless Shores and start with the side quests. Also, make sure that you’re doing faction missions and town board missions there. Pick up the side quest called Pirates will Pirate from the NPC named Lyse Muller. Follow it to the end to unlock the quest Archdeacon Azamela, which later takes you to the next expedition known as the Depths.
When you’re at level 43 and have obtained the Restless Shores’ quest for the Depths Expedition Orb, make your way to Mourningdale to continue the main storyline. Turn in your quest there to be awarded the orb that takes you to the Depths.
You will now have the main story quest to complete, along with side quests from the Restless Shores and a repeatable quest called Meat for Nekumanesh, which can be picked from outside the Depths expedition. To cover levels from 43 to 48, make sure you’re doing the necessary quests while running the Depths when you can. Also, while you’re pushing towards the main storyline, you can run corrupted portals or grind mobs at Eridanus, which is an Angry Earth elite area.
Levels 48 to 53
It’s time to head into the Great Cleave and complete the quests at the Eastburn Outpost. These quests will lead you to quests that reward players with high-tier gear upon completion (level 60). You can either do these now or choose to do them once you max out.
Now move up to Edengrove and continue the main storyline. Pick up every quest in Valor Hold and complete them, which will eventually lead you to obtain tuning orbs for the Garden of Genesis expedition. Continue with the quest loops until it leads you to the Dynasty Shipyard quest. If you’re not already level 53 by now, you can go to the Great Cleave and grind the elite mobs at Svikin’s Stand. Alternatively, you can run corrupted portals there.
If you’re looking for a good elite spot, then you can opt for Scorpius in Mourningdale, and if they are too crowded, you can head to the Northern part of Mourningdale to Hibbotsfield and kill corrupted farmers.
Levels 53 to 60
Continue the main storyline that leads you into Ebonscale Reach, and alongside that, run a comb of Dynasty Shipyard and the mission loop in Ebonscale in between the runs. Once you’re at level 57 push ahead into the Shattered Mountain and pick the quests in Mountainhome.
You need a group for most of the areas located in the Shattered Mountain. However, by chance, if you don’t have a group, you can opt for the other elite grounds that were mentioned earlier in the guide.
